I finished "Sleep No More" by Greg Iles. Here is the thing, it took until about page 80 for it to really start to pick up. Then, it was on the move. Really intriguing and I was really looking forward to seeing how it would end. There were a few predictable bits and pieces in it. Then came the end. Basically it was like sex without an orgasm. Getting there was fun but the ending was a huge disappointment. Given that this is my blog, I choose to rate this book on a sliding scale where I break it down by portion. The rating system is between 1 and 10 with 10 being the best. The portions are Beginning, Middle and End. Beginning = 3 Middle = 9 End = 2.5 The average here would then be a 4.8. That is not a screaming endorsement if you ask me. The best part of this book was the cover art. I don't tend to pay that much attention to the cover art on a book. Really, it is usually the author that will catch my attention. Then, I would have to say that a title will catch my attention. The summary means a lot to me if I am unfamiliar with the author. The cover art barely registers. This one did. It is really eye catching. I guess they needed an eye catching cover to make up for the less than stellar ending. The thing that bothers me is the high praise that Stephen King gave is all over the cover and pages of the inside of the book. I didn't notice his praises until after I had already purchased it but, after I read them, I was understandably excited to start reading it. I guess it just goes to show that fame can't buy taste.
