"The Taste You Choose"?

Really? This is the taste people choose? People choose this taste? People actually want to put this in their mouths? Ok! I guess I should just chalk it up to the fact that everyone is different because, I would not choose this taste.

What am I talking about? Zicam's Multi-Symptom Cold and Flu To Go. They are portable single dose spoons and you can open them up and mix them in any drink you want. Water, tea, soda...whatever your pleasure. My sister let me try one of hers and she just suggested that I lick it off the spoon and not even bother putting it in a drink. That is her preferred method of use. But, she told me that it tastes horrible. I don't know if she prefers to take it this way because it is faster and less offensive than mixing it inside a drink. I would imagine that is the case. Anyway, I did as she suggested. The first time I took it, I had maybe about 3% of my taste buds so I could barely taste it and told her that the taste wasn't bad at all. Boy was I wrong. Once my senses of smell and taste came back, good Lord was I wrong. It is horrible. Possibly one of the worst things I have ever put in my mouth. I would rather eat seafood and fish for every meal for the rest of my life and, I hate seafood and fish. I literally have to psych myself up to take this stuff. But, because it works, I keep torturing myself. Now, when I say it works, I have to clarify that it probably works right at the start of a cold, before you actually feel bad. Probably around the time that you are getting signs that a cold is coming. Maybe when you are sneezing a lot or when you have that tell tale scratchy throat or post-nasal drip. I started using it over Christmas when my cold was about as bad as it was going to get. It made my symptoms slightly less offensive but, wasn't really working its magic to help me get rid of the cold. So, over the weekend I started taking it again and, it is helping both my symptoms and helping me get over the cold. I think I would still be much worse than I am now if I hadn't started taking it again.

So, my method of taking this stuff is to just lick it off the spoon thing and then gulp almost a full bottle of flavored water. I like Fruit2O in Tropical Fruit flavor. But, regardless of your beverage of preference, make sure you drink something with flavor. You will want to get the taste of this stuff out of your mouth A.S.A.P.

Anyway, my whole reason for this post was to beg the question: Who chooses this taste?

Finished It...

I finished Dante's Inferno. That is about all I have to say about it. Now, on to Dante's Purgatorio.

Customer Dis-Service...

I remember when I was old enough to have a job at the local McDonald's, then at a clothing store at the mall and then at a local grocery store, proper Customer Service was stressed. Employees would get yelled at if it wasn't given proper attention.

Is it even in the employee handbooks anymore? Does it even have a definition in the dictionary?

I bitched about the Customer Service with the airline the hubby and I chose to use for our holiday travel last week. But, now it is time to bitch about 2 other specific instances of Customer Dis-Service that we experienced this weekend...in the same day.

We do our grocery shopping on Saturdays and, because we had a busy day of taking down our Christmas decorations and then running around at the mall, we did our grocery shopping a little later than we normally do. The store we choose to frequent closes at 9 and we started our shopping somewhere around 8-ish. We were in the 2nd to last aisle when we passed a male employee talking to an off-shift female employee. The male employee said to the female employee...in about as snide a voice as his little bitch ass could muster..."Walmart is open 24 hours." Of course, this seemed directed at the hubby and I. Excuse the Fuckity Fuck out of me! We are loyal customers at that store. Show some damn respect! Especially since I could be lodging a weekly complaint about how their baggers put the milk carton in with our bread and poisonous chemical cleaners in with our deli meats! Shut up, Asshole! I'll shop till 8:59 pm if it fucking pleases me! Your store closes at 9 and we were out of there and on our way home by 8:45!

The second Customer Dis-Service happened earlier that day at a fast food restaurant. I ordered a chicken salad. I went to get our drinks while the hubby paid and waited for the tray, while the manager talked loudly about the Sunday night game he was supposed to watch at his house with a group of his friends. He had a bet on the game and it would have meant him getting a tattoo or something...who gives a shit? He also talked about how he was going to go to a rival fast food restaurant and get a tray from them for the event. Nice! I picked a table, grabbed some napkins and Ketchup for the hubby then sat down to dig in. Where was my chicken? I went back up to the counter and had to wait while all of the employees stood behind the grill and chatted with one another, then I was noticed as the manager told "Jose" to find out what I wanted. I got my chicken, sat back down and put my salad dressing on the salad to find that I didn't have a utensil with which to eat my salad. I went back up to get a fork and a plastic bag to carry my salad in as the hubby was now more than halfway through with his meal. I got my fork and was finally able to start eating!

This restaurant's manager is an ass. He wouldn't serve a man that came in with a Steelers jersey on. And, in the past, he loudly talked with another employee about his visits to a "Swingers Club"...and, no...I am not talking about a club that specializes in Swing Dancing. This guy has no filter. Now, don't get me wrong, his conversation about the Swingers Club was entertaining. Mostly because the hubby and I are probably one of the only people in that restaurant that know what that club is...not from experience, get your minds out of the gutter. That club used to be advertised on late night television during commercial breaks from shows like Blind Date and 5th Wheel.

So, my conclusion is that Customer Service is now one with the shitter.

A Strong Opinion...

I can not stand Doctor Phil! I think that anyone worth their salt as a Psychiatrist should not have to have a TV show, where they exploit their patients' very private pain, in order to practice psychiatry. I think that if he were a good doctor, he could make his livelihood behind closed doors. But, because he is a hack...and I am entitled to my opinion...he has to have a TV show in order to make money.

So, here is where I feel bad for a favorite scab! Dr. Phil made a visit to Britney Spears at Cedars Sinai Medical Center and she was, reportedly, not happy about it.

To Dr. Phil, stay the heck away from her! She doesn't need your brand of help! She needs someone real! Someone who is good enough at their job to be able to make a living behind closed doors! Someone who won't put her on TV and call it an "Intervention". Step away from the Train Wreck! She is enough of a mess without your special little help!

Stop Fibbing...

I see this a lot. People lose a lot of weight but, instead of just being proud of their weight loss and their new much smaller size, they fib or outright lie about their new size.

For example, in one of my favorite magazines, a woman went from 301 lbs to 150 lbs. She is 5'8" and says that at that height and weight she is a size 6. So, let me tell you about myself. I am 5'8" and waver between 125 and 130 lbs and I am, depending on the designer, a size 6 or 8. How is she my same height, weighs more than me but wears the same size as or a smaller size than me? No offense! Congrats on your outstanding weight loss but, be proud of your loss and your new size instead of fibbing about it!

One woman went from 334 lbs to 164, is 5'7" and says she is a size 10. That one I believe. But, again...look at her stats compared to the above woman's stats and it makes you wonder even more how she is taller, weights less but wears a considerably smaller size. I know that weight looks different on each individual. But, I still believe that you can tell a person who wears a size 6 from a person who says she wears a size 6 but really wears a size 10.

All I ask is, if you want me to think good thoughts about your magnificent weight loss, don't piss on my leg and tell me it is raining!

So, here is a little tidbit of info for you Criminal Minds and CSI: NY lovers. Remember I bitched about CBS's FU to the viewers in a show of solidarity with their writing peeps? They were supposed to air a new episode of each just before Christmas but chose to air reruns under the new episode descriptions. The Eppies were titled "3rd life" for Criminal Minds and "Happily Never After" for CSI: NY. They are set to play those episodes this coming week so, we shall see! I hope they actually do it this time!

And, last year, after one of the school shootings, there was supposed to be an episode of Bones on a college campus. I don't know the specifics of that eppy but, they pulled it temporarily and, have to date, never shown it. Well, sometime in May, Fox intends to air that episode but, it has been somewhat tweaked. And, speaking of Bones, along with that episode, the other 3 episodes will begin airing starting April 28th. Being a big Bones fan, that seems like forever from now. But, I can be patient when I have no choice!

As Promised...

I promised that I would read Dante's Inferno and, I am. Actually, I am reading Inferno now, to be followed by Purgatorio and then Paradiso. I chose the trilogy as translated by John D. Sinclair.

So, I went into Border's Books to make some purchases and decided to finally quiet the cosmos and get Inferno. I went to look it up in the Customer Reference Computer when an employee approached me and asked if I needed any help. I asked him to help me find Dante's Inferno, he looked up where to find it and led me there. There are many translations of it and the other 2 in the trilogy. As I was choosing which translation I wanted, the employee came back up to me with a Cliff Notes and told me that I would probably need it. I sort of giggled at him and said quizzically, "Cliff's Notes?" He backed up a bit, said something about not trying to... and then asked me if I was reading it for class. I told him I was just reading it on my own due to curiosity and he told me that some people have a hard time understanding it. He left and I felt somewhat insulted and flattered all at the same time. Insulted because he sort of assumed that I wasn't intelligent enough to read the book without Cliff Notes, which was considered cheating in my school when I was growing up so, I never used them unless the teacher instructed us to. And, then I felt flattered that he thought my 34 year old butt was still in school. What school I don't know. But, whether it was high school or college, that is awesome!

So, I made my choice and ditched the Cliff Notes, went to the register and walked out a little unsure of myself.

I will admit that Inferno is not the easiest read and, as I said, I was feeling a little unsure so, when I started reading it, I struggled a little bit to grasp the Old English style of writing. It has been quite some time since I last had to read Old English but, I can say that I found my groove and am doing it without the aid of Cliff Notes. Thank you very much Mr. Border's Employee guy who undermined my ability to read an intelligently written, thoughtful book from the 1200's.

The Last Straw?

Or just another legal let down? The twat of the century really messed up this time! But, will it be the final straw that breaks the legal camel's back? Britney Spears held her two kids hostage in her home last night, refusing to relinquish them to ex-hubby and baby daddy Kevin Federline. So, throngs of law enforcement agents showed up to remove the kids and, in the process, the Brit Twit was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in an ambulance, all the while with a huge shit eating smile on her face. Her youngest son Jayden James, 1 year and some change, was also taken to the Medical Center in a separate ambulance. No word really on why he needed medical attention or what kind of medical attention he needs.

So, has she finally done enough to get her rights as a mother revoked completely? She is being watched closely now as she is thought to be a danger to herself or others! Well duh! Why did it take her holding her kids hostage for someone to finally figure that little gem out? The woman has run over people's feet, been in vehicular accidents and was driving at excessive speeds of 100 to 120 miles per hour, mere days ago! But, it is only JUST apparent that this bimbo is a danger to herself and others? I didn't know that you needed a medical license or a law degree to figure that one out! It seemed pretty obvious to this "some college" educated girl! But, whatev!

PLEASE! Make this her official last chance folks! She doesn't deserve legal pity! She doesn't deserve her children! She doesn't deserve one more chance to minorly (I know it isn't a word) or fatally injure herself or someone else! What more does she have to do to prove that she is a menace to society and her innocent children?

As An Average Girl...

I would never be so lucky to get 5 more chances. Britney missed her deposition for the 5th time yesterday and it was rescheduled for today. She finally showed up to it today, almost 2 hours late. But, 5 misses begs the question: If I skipped out on 5 depositions, what would happen to my average girl butt? Would I be tossed in jail for disobeying a court order? Would I be fined? Would I get a total of 6 chances or would they just give up and throw the law at me like a ton of bricks? I feel wronged in some way by the fact that Britney got a grand total of 5 reschedules for her Deposition for a total of 6 scheduled slots. And, she couldn't even show up to her Re-re-re-re-rescheduled Deposition on time. Not just late, but really, really late! WTF? Something is very wrong with our legal system when a twat like Britney is given multiple chances to spit in the face of the court! But, whatever! It's Britney Bitches!

To top it all off, because she was nearly 2 hours late, they had to cut today's deposition short and the questioning only lasted 13 minutes!

For the love of God! Please! Throw the gavel at her on her way into prison custody!

Breathing New Life Into Old Sayings...

"When I eased open the door, I encountered no tattooed thug, which meant that gravity would soon fail and that bears would henceforth leave the woods to toilet in public lavatories."

(Forever Odd by Dean Koontz, pg. 151).

This is just one of many reasons that I love Dean Koontz. After sitting in an airport for an extra 2 and a half hours due to a delay with our chosen airline, and suffering from my third really horrible cold of the season, he managed to get a giggle out of me while in flight on my way home after my Christmas vacation.

I have tooted Dean Koontz's horn a lot in this blog. He deserves it! He makes me laugh when I can't imagine that I even have the proper ingredients inside myself to mix together a nice batch of laughter. He makes me cry...which isn't the hardest thing to do...but, to do it simply through written words on a page is pretty incredible in my mind. The man is a genius with words.

So, he took 2 old sayings, "What goes up must come down" and, "Does a bear shit in the woods?" And he just reworked them to suit the situation perfectly and managed to grab a giggle out of a woman who was progressively getting more and more aggravated at the inconsiderate, incompetent, piss poor service of her chosen airline. No, I will not call them out in this rather public forum as I don't want to get into any trouble. Just trust me when I say that they were not only 2 and a half hours late, but when they switched gates on us, the gate agent came on over the loud speaker a grand total of one time to holler at everyone that our gate had changed. I got up and quickly went to make sure that the hubby and I heard correctly and caught her with her coat on, her purse on her shoulder, grabbing her carry on and making a mad rush for the new gate. I stopped her, asked if she said our gate had been changed, got the bitchiest, shortest answer. A very snotty "Yes!". Then, to made triple sure, I specified my flight number and got another aggravated and emphatic "Yes!". This bitch needs some serious customer service training, STAT!

So, back to the point of this post...I adore Dean Koontz for a lot of reasons and now, I can add his ability to take me from pissed off to giggling in one short paragraph!

So, given my long airport wait, I finished half of this book on the way home from my Christmas trip and the last half of it today!

Again, Bravo Dean Koontz! Forever Odd is another edge of your seat read in the Odd Thomas series! I loved it! It starts off gripping and leaves you hoping for more!
